Asked Twitter which camera looked better, ended up with both 🤷

Thought I'd share a short tale on an accidental development choice re: camera angles that ended up being better than we intended.

We've just released a short Santa stealth micro-game - a wee bit of a homage to those old-school MGS stealth games, but with a festive feel.

We had always designed it with a directly overhead camera angle in mind, but accidentally switched to an angled view in Unity one day and thought it actually looked a bit cooler?!

So, I did what all confused devs do and asked Twitter which one they thought was better - with the angled camera being the resounding winner.

HOWEVER, those that got the reference to the old school MGS feel opted for B big time, so we ended up doing something that we should have done in the first place... and just implementing both :)

Both Angles!

Because we're using Cinemachine, we were able to have two virtual cameras that the player can switch between.

So a few lessons from this:

  • Don't be afraid to experiment
  • Always get feedback
  • ... and when in doubt, try both!
